Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Geographic Discipline Leader to join our Bridge team in Miami, FL. The GDL is responsible for the professional, technical, management, marketing, administrative and financial aspects of their department and represents firm as expert in their specific department field. Manages the department in order to provide cost effective services to various department managers, project managers, staff and other employees in a manner which produces an adequate profit for the company.


Responsibilities

  • Performs duties in support of the direction and vision of the overall discipline for their assigned geographic locations.
  • Oversees, directs and manages the work effort of assigned staff.
  • Collaborate with other GDL's within the region and with the Regional Discipline Leader.
  • Responsible for productivity, profitability, client satisfaction and quality of work.
  • Active involvement with marketing and business development.
  • Responsible for billings and collections.
  • Monitors work backlog and the sharing of work within the region and discipline.
  • Actively involved in the cross selling of all company services.
  • Develops the skills and abilities of staff which are necessary for the successful execution of the work.
  • Reviews staff utilization regularly to address employees not meeting utilization goals.
  • Ensures compliance with and enforces company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a resource for project managers and staff on assigned projects and manage completion of projects regarding scope, schedule, quality, and budget.
  • Provide staff/managers with technical assistance and supervision in the preparation of proposals and contracts for assigned projects.
  • Coordinate and work closely with accounting/billing to develop and review project invoices, monitoring those of assigned billing managers.
  • Complete all billing in a timely manner.
  • Monitor the backlog of work and the distribution of work in assigned region.
  • New business development and management/maintenance of existing clients. Assist in the development of the annual business plan for the discipline.
  • Cross sell all of Colliers Engineering & Design lines of services.
  • Manage the financial aspects of assigned team(s) and monitor the performance of the business to meet or exceed revenue and/or profit goals.
  • Comply with and enforce Colliers Engineering & Design's Health & Safety program.
  • Assist with project manager's efforts to prepare for and/or attend client/agency meetings with, or for PMs to present information pertinent to the project. Develop innovative, comprehensive multimedia support materials for client and/or agency meetings.
  • Develop the skills and abilities of staff which are necessary for successful execution of work duties. Serve as a mentor and coach staff.
  • Assist with the quality control/quality assurance efforts on all assigned projects.
  • Manage the performance of all assigned staff, conduct performance evaluations, provide input for all raise and bonus discussions.
  • Review staff utilization monthly and address employees not meeting hours/billable hours goals. Make any necessary recommendations to the Discipline Leader on increasing or decreasing staff size.
  • Attend various external meetings such as planning board hearings, client meetings. Represent Colliers Engineering & Design in a professional and credible manner, upholding the core values.
  • Provide and monitor performance goals for assigned staff.
  • Meet with assigned staff to provide feedback and review job performance on a regular basis.
  • Address any performance issues on a timely basis and work with HR as needed to create performance improvement plans.
  • Review and approve assigned timesheets in a timely manner.
  • Manage and review project schedules, budgets, and QC/QA plans.

Qualifications

  • Basic / Minimum Education requirement to perform the job: Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering.
  • Relevant Years of experience required to perform the role: 10+ years of experience in related field. 7+ years of experience with preparing proposals, developing budgets, tracking budgets and the associated financial management skills necessary to run a team and monitor the performance of the business.
  • Technical Knowledge/Expertise- Continually learn and apply applicable standards, procedures, trends, technology, and criteria to successfully perform the functional responsibilities of the position.
  • Relationship Management- Possess and demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain internal and external relationships which support the success of the Company.
  • Business Acumen- Knowledgeable in best practices, trends, information, and other influences that affect CED and the environment in which we work, to maintain our position as an industry leader.
  • Communication- Possess and demonstrate the ability, skills, and initiative to exchange information effectively and efficiently.
  • Program and Project Management- Possess and demonstrate the ability to lead effectively and efficiently, plan, organize and manage procedures, protocols and/or staff to achieve the desired results of specific projects and/or programs.
  • PE Preferred.
  • Related discipline and safety training/ certifications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively work well with and communicate with others.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects at one time, meeting profit and revenue goals.
