Generac Energy Services is a cutting-edge team that is working to provide end-to-end digital solutions for customers striving to manage increasingly complex portfolios of industrial power equipment/infrastructure.

As a Senior Software Engineer- Embedded within Generac Energy Services, you will be responsible for design, development, and deployment of the edge device solutions. The edge device solutions are embedded applications running on gateways connected to industrial equipment. The solution communicates with the IoT platform specifically designed for no-code deployments for energy and smart infrastructure solutions. The edge device technology stack is C++ and Azure Edge IoT based and ranges from the cellular or ethernet interfaces for communication to the IoT platform to Modbus and GPIO for communication to the industrial equipment. We consider this a hybrid role with a combination of on-site and remote work from home.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Select technical solutions and approaches and participate in the subsequent design and development process to create cost effective technical solutions
  • Contribute to integrated product solutions that use embedded and server-based software systems to control and monitor power generation systems
  • Support product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs)
  • Provide engineering field support to customers and dealers as needed, including occasional site travel
  • Write code to develop new applications, enhancements and fixes to existing web and mobile applications using best practice design patterns to ensure performance and scalability.
  • Implement application designs that meet market needs and are easily extended with evolving business needs. Ensure compatibility and interoperability of the product API with internal and external consumers.
  • Review project ideas/requirements and provide technical input, prescribing appropriate application solutions which balance business needs with technical standards to arrive at the optimal solution.
  • Participate in collaborative design sessions, agile planning, code reviews, and retroactive ceremonies
  • Stay abreast and make recommendations of emerging technical trends and coding best practices

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline
  • 5+years of relevant work experience
  • Embedded experience
  • C++, Linux, SQL, JSON
  • Microsoft Visual Studio or Eclipse
  • Design patterns

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Azure Edge IoT
  • Azure IoT Device SDK for C / C++
  • Over The Air (OTA) embedded application updates
  • Factory or manufacturing embedded application loading
  • C#, .Net
  • Shell scripting
  • SQLite
  • POrtable COmponents (POCO) C++ Libraries
  • Modbus / FieldTalk
  • General Purpose I/O (GPIO)

Compensation:

Generac is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role when based in Denver, Colorado is $108,300-134,520. This compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. This role is eligible for variable compensation including short and long term incentives. Hybrid work environment is supported; position locations available in Indianapolis, IN, Denver, CO or Vancouver, BC.

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting; close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
