ROLE: The Assistant Buyer is responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, and supplies from vendors. Evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine most desirable suppliers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Purchases materials, parts, supplies, and equipment following established purchasing policies and procedures and optimizes price, delivery, and terms; typically purchases $3-5 million per year; does not become heavily involved in the development of specifications, but the work is more complex than buying off-the-shelf items.
  • Investigates and identifies qualified suppliers; issues requests for quotations; may evaluate vendor reliability.
  • Determines method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid.
  • Reviews, approves and issues purchase requisitions; follows up and expedites as necessary.
  • Selects products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items; estimates values according to knowledge of market price.
  • Negotiate and settle damage claims, rejections, losses, return of materials, over-shipments, and cancellations
  • Coordinates purchasing activities with manufacturing and engineering departments to maintain inventory at planned levels.
  • Maintains procurement records such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
  • As required, monitors the cost, schedule, and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value.
  • Monitors market trends and conditions.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent Required
  • EXPERIENCE: At least 2 years of relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES:

  • Language: English Ability to communicate effectively within all levels of the organization. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Computer Skills: Ability to use Microsoft Office and Simix ***
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Abilities: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Technical Skills: Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals to perform a variety of tasks.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear; and occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic)
